GRAPHING THE PLANETARIUM

Graph the curves, lines and points stated below and attach your graph to this page. Turn this in to your teacher. Blue line quarter-inch ruled graph paper is good to use for this project. Let 1/4 inch represent 3 feet. Use two sheets put together along the top to make an 8.5 inch by almost 22 inch sheet. Before you tape the sheets together, cut one sheet on a blue graph line near one edge on the top side so you can match the graph lines exactly when taping them together. Use a small piece of tape on the top and bottom of the front side to line the pages together. Turn the taped pages over and use a long piece to tape the pages together then remove the small pieces of tape from the front.

Draw a centered y-axis then count down 12 lines from the top of the graph paper on your y-axis and draw the x-axis (horizontal) line across both sheets. Label each axis in 3 foot per graph line increments on both lines.

Use your function representation of the Science Center hyperbola: Calculate points to plot then plot and label each point of the hyperbola on right side of the y-axis. Put the label outside the building. By changing the x coordinate from positive to negative, plot the corresponding point on the left side of the y axis. Check inequalities with each equation on the Planetarium Formula Page to know where to end your plotted points.

Plot the other lines and curves given on the Planetarium Formula Page labeling points and lines as you go. Your finished project should look like the following graph but yours will be large and have lots of labeled points, lines and curves.
