Claude E. Shannon

Mathematician Claude E. Shannon developed the UNIFIED FIELD THEORY OF JUGGLING proportion.

JUGGLE THREE CLUBS 1 red and 2 white one hand black the other white gloved.

SHANNON'S UFTOJ MODEL interrelated the following components:

D is the dwell time,

the time a hand spends holding an object.

V is the vacant or empty hand time.

F is the object's flight time.

B stands for the number of objects tossed and for the number of hands doing the tossing.

Juggle 3 clubs: red one and 2 white to emphasize the PATTERNS.

Notice two different cycles occurring as I juggle these clubs a little higher:

A CLUB CYCLE, (pause then say flight - dwell pause) where F + D is the time in seconds for a club cycle.

AND

A HAND CYCLE, (pause then say vacant - dwell pause) where V + D is the time in seconds for a hand cycle.

The number of clubs divided by the number of hands must equal the club cycle time divided by the hand cycle time.

read as the or sum of ... divided by the sum of

So we get: B/H = (F + D)/(V + D)

CHANT D.

Let's look at a special case for three ballsand two hands doing the unit juggle.

For B = 3, H = 2 and F = .576 sec, Shannon's proportion simplifies to:

3V + D = 1.152 sec.

A linear graph shows the juggler's variations for the special case unit juggle.

Juggle the three picture pins - Galileo - Shannon - and Beek and do a few to warm up again.
