Meramec's Campus Neighborhood (nbd)

If you are looking for the St. Louis Community College at Meramec campus relative to the major GPS coordinates then explore the area north of I44 and I270 using TIGER Map Service.

In addition to regular road maps of St. Louis and Kirkwood MO you may use the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5-minute Kirkwood, MO (38090-E4-TF-024) section. One math project example that used this USGS topographic map is "A Kirkwood Neighborhood Project Kit". The Latitude/Longitude ordered pair for the origin in this topographic map is (38.586869, -90.420169) as scaled from the 7.5-minute map. If you use Tiger to find this ordered pair you will pinpoint a home about 300 feet away. The origin's GPS ordered pair location found by using Tiger is about (38.587619, -90.41973) and converting to a UTM meter coordinate gives (724743.968, 4273966.33). A GPS map for this nbd would give one the opportunity to follow a morning stroll with a GPS reciever.

The red pin marks the point where the rail road tracks cross Big Bend Blvd. and a Latitude/Longitude ordered pair found using Tiger is (38.5666924, -90.4152832) with a corresponding UTM point (725196.726, 4271654.66). On a clear day one can see the St. Louis "Gateway Arch" which has corresponding Latitude/Longitude coordinates (38.6250000, -90.1851273) and UTM coordinates (745054.32, 4278715.90) in meters. The Gateway Arch nbd found on Tiger does not have the Arch drawn so you may be interested in locating the coordinates for yourself. However, using the coordinates in this paragraph, find the Heading (HDG or COG) from where rail road tracks cross Big Bend Blvd. to the Arch using your GPS receiver.
