TEXT: College Algebra Graphs and Models by Bittinger, Beecher, Ellenbogen, Penna
This course is basic to most scientific endeavors. Topics included are: functions; quadratic equations, ratio, proportion and variation; mathematical induction; binomial theorem; complex numbers; theory of equations; determinants and elimination theory; progressions; inequalities; logarithms.
The prerequisite for this course is a satisfactory score on the mathematics placement test, or completion of the course MTH:140, Intermediate Algebra, with a grade of "C" or better.
Students are expected to attend class. In addition, you should plan to spend a minimum of 8 hours per week outside of class preparing for classwork.
If you have difficulty with coursework, the first thing to do is to consult with your instructor. Mathematics tutoring is available at the drop-in math tutoring center, located in SW211. Tutoring is also offered at the South County Education Center and the West County Education Center. To obtain individual peer tutoring through the College Success Program, contact Kathy Rose in the Administration Building, Room 232 (984-7571). Instructional videotapes are available for use in the Library Learning Lab.
If you find it necessary to drop this class and move to a lower level course, please do so as soon in the semester as possible. If you wait too long in the semester, we will not be able to move you into another math class.
