We are the Sparkling Unicorns with 4 legs that only use 3 since 9/11/01.
We are comprised of Adam, Mighty Joe, Steve "Dinghy" Gewinner and Kyle "Ain't to Shabby" Sherzer.
For the most part, the Unicorns are amatuers to figuring the genius behind the Arch.
We learned that it was very difficult for the Arch designers to make all the
calculations without computers.
We found that Arch is made up of equilateral
triangles, that the centriod is two thirds
of the way from the intrados
to the extrados and
the Arch sways in the wind.
This project was a big jump for us. We had to move from the classroom to real life situations.
The Arch measurements had to be of great precision.
Many people do not understand what a great accomplishment the Arch really is.
Next time you are at the Arch, we encourage you to stop and think about the mathematics behind it.
