ADT worked on the St. Louis Arch Project for about two weeks. Eric, Glennis, Tanja and Ljubomir are the associates of this Arch Design Team ( ADT ) and we are awesome! ADT payed a visit to the mamouth Arch with hopes of understanding the hyperbolic and trig functions we saw on paper.
Just placing our hands on the large stainless steel sections that our excel sheets measured excatly gave us a sense of astonishment.
A former instructor at Meramec, Professor Grunmann, also came to visit and speak to our class. He actually talked with the creator Eero Saarinen, whose concept of the arch was in the first phases of design. When asked about how Saarinen saw the arch, Professor Grunmann took less than two minutes to draw up the downtown landscape and calmly draw in a curve of the arch which was immediately projected magnificantly over the city. This 3D drawing was quite amazing, it reminded us of what Saarinen might have seen as he would have stuck his head through the center of the table holding his three dimesional model of St. Louis.

All the equations used are on the Arch page.
