Hi my name is Jill , for me to walk 100 ft. while tossing a ball it takes 21.36 seconds. That means I can go 3.19 mph. Would you like to see how fast you can go?
First lets gather a few things. You will need a grownup helper, a piece of chalk, paper, pencil, measuring tape, a ball if you like and your helper can use a calculator.
Your helper will measure 10 ft. and you will take your chalk and mark the beginning and end with a long line. Next, you go the first line you drew and will walk toward the other. Your helper will count the seconds. Ready, get set and go!
How many seconds did it take you? Lets take your paper and pencil and draw four lines like this _____ _____ _____ _______.
On the top of the first line put a 10 for the 10 feet you walked. Below the line put your time, the seconds it took you to walk.
On the top of the the second line you can put the number 1 , for 1 mile, below the line your helper will write 5,280 because there are 5,280 feet in one mile.
Next your helper should write on the top of the third line the number 3,600 for the amount of seconds in one hour, below the line you can write the number 1, for one hour.
Have your helper multiply the top three numbers, this long number will go on the top of the fourth line. Next your helper can multiply the bottom three number, this number will go on the bottom of line four.
Now your helper should enter the top number of line four to the calculater and divide this by the bottom number of line four. How many miles per hour do you walk? Lets try it again,this time try to toss a ball while you walk, and then you can make a parade. Have fun!!
